Beyond Inequalities: Women in Southern Africa
The book is part of the 13 book series under the title Beyond Inequalities: Women in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The book gives an overview of the situation of women in the SADC region, summarizing the critical issues such as power and decision-making, poverty and economy, agriculture and food security, health, education, media and information systems and environment, among others raised in the national profiles. The book highlights obstacles to women’s advancement and presents initiatives by SADC countries to mainstream gender in development processes at both national and regional levels. As such, it aims to provide information to policy-makers, researchers, NGOs, the media and the donor community as a basis for ensuring gender sensitive policies and the enhancement of the position of women in the region. The book is written in such a way that it serves as a powerful information tool for lobbying and advocacy for regional action on the transformation of gender relations at all levels.
