34th SADC SUMMIT

The 34th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe on 17-18 August 2014, was a milestone for socio-economic development in southern Africa. The theme speaks to our desire for a united and prosperous region through defining a “SADC Strategy for Economic Transformation: Leveraging the Region’s Diverse Resources for Sustainable Economic and Social Development through Value Addition and Beneficiation.” The Summit included a review of regional strategy, and marked the completion of one year in office by the Executive Secretary, Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax. This well-illustrated publication is intended to inform stakeholders and the general public about the approach to regional integration and to encourage their active participation. Produced by SADC’s knowledge partners at the Southern African Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC), turning the pages of this book reveals the history of SADC as well as current issues. A full section is dedicated to the Republic of Zimbabwe as host of the 34th SADC Summit, providing a comprehensive national profile, as well as an insight into the national development plan, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset), which focuses on using its wealth of natural and human resources for socio-economic development.
